Skincare isn’t one size fits all, your skins microbiome is influenced by your environment, diet, daily skincare routine and even the thoughts you think. As a licensed esthetician and holistic skincare expert, I believe the key on how to achieve glowing skin and a radiant complexion starts with both the right mindset and the right skincare routine.
Skincare products are formulated at varying degrees of effectiveness, based on ingredients in highest to lowest concentrations. Read this excerpt from the Mayo Clinic on the importance of ingredient quality and formulations. Below I will explain the five best types of skincare products to keep in your routine.
The 5 Essential Skincare Products to Achieve Glowing Skin
- Cleanser
- Exfoliant
- Serum
- Eye & Lip Care
- SPF

1. Cleansers: The First Step to a Radiant Complexion
Using a face cleanser is as essential as brushing your teeth. If you leave the dirt, debris, and oil from the day lying on top, it will absorb into your skin and impact its health in the future.
Double cleansing is the most popular method. This involves first using an oil based cleanser to remove any excess oil from your skins surface without stripping away necessary hydration followed by a water based cleanser that is specific to your skin type. Use this guide from Cerave to find out if double cleansing is right for you!
A cleanser that is tried and true, is this Dermalogica Oil to Foam Cleanser. It combines the double cleansing method into a practical and useful 2 in 1 product.
2. Exfoliants: Reveal Brighter, Healthier Skin
Exfoliating on a regular schedule removes dead skin cells from the surface preventing a dull or flaky appearance.
When exfoliating you have a wide choice of products to work with. You have AHAs that eat away at the debris on the surface of your skin, BHAs that dig into the pores for hidden dirt and oils, and then you have enzymes which can be added to either of those to control the intensity of the chemical reaction in products.
An exfoliant that is good for all skin types and is gentle enough to do at home is Dermalogica’s Liquid Peelfoliant. This liquid exfoliation uses AHAs, BHAs, and PHAs to reveal a brighter and more radiant complexion.
3. Serums: The Secrets to Achieve Glowing Skin
A serum can be used to prevent or correct skin concerns. It all depends on what ingredients are used and their formulation to make the products.
A preventative serum would be one that can work for all sin types and typically has nourishing properties to stop or slow some skin concerns from forming. A corrective serum works to target specific concerns that are already present like wrinkles or hyperpigmentation.
One of my favorite preventative serums to keep on hand is Clarity RX Nourish your Skin Squalane Oil. This oil uses plant derived squalane, which is an oil that is almost identical to the one that our skin naturally produces, making it the perfect nourishing and plumping serum for prevention.
4. Eye & Lip Care: Targeting Delicate Areas for a Youthful Look
The area under the eyes and right above our top lip by the nasolabial folds, is delicately thin and needs to be cared for in a different manner than the rest of your skin.
Because the skin is thinner in these areas, the products best suited for it is one that typically replenishes hydration and elasticity, like peptides and collagen.
One of the best eye creams on the market is Dermalogica’s Phyto Nature Lifting Eye Cream. This eye cream uses powerful peptides visibly firm, boost skin’s resilience, and defend against free radicals. I like to use it on both the lip and eye area.
5. SPF: Your Daily Shield to Achieve Glowing Skin
As we have discussed before, the suns ultraviolet light can be harmful to our skin when it is directed right at us. “Moonlight acts as a safer, filtered source of Vitamin D by reflecting the suns rays.” – Align with the Feminine Energy of the Moon, Aligning Auras.
SPF is a man made filter that protects your skin while allowing safe vitamin D absorption throughout the day. There are two different types of SPF to choose from, chemical and physical. A chemical SP absorbs into the skin working with your skins natural tendencies to fight off harmful UV rays. A physical SPF lays on top of the skin acting as a shield to block the UV rays chance of getting into the skin.
A chemical SPF will typically give you more leeway when it comes to duality. My go to SPF is Dermalogica’s Dynamic Skin Recovery because it absorbs beautifully into the skin without leaving a greasy layer on top.

By using these five products, you’ll give your skin the best chance at that dewy, iridescent glow. But remember, if you believe in what you’re doing, you’re already halfway there. Here is a list of my tried and true skincare essentials, I update it continually as I try out new products.
